Karam Mseih owns "a treasure in heaven"

By Fr. Rif'at Bader

Whoever reads the biography of the late Karam Mseih will highly value a man who excelled and served as an inspiring model to young men and women in Jordan. His motto was “O Lord inspire us to make good deeds in life and instill in us a strong yearning to the Kingdom of God.”

The young man “Karam” worked in the field of casting gold in 1955. In 1976, he started his own business. He excelled in his work and looked for new horizons in the world.

Thus, from year to year, he managed to expand and open several branches where the brand "Karam Mseih" was seen in several festivities in the Kingdom, including weddings, engagements, graduation ceremonies, Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, and others. In the year 2005 “the Karan Mseih Award of Distinction” was launched, and he became known as an infatuating "success story".

Yet, Karam owned another "treasure" that is brighter and more shining, as Lord Jesus Christ said: "Store up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.” Consequently, he owned a treasure in the Kingdom of God by following the path of faith, as well as the love of God and of all the people. This was achieved by drawing closer to God through praying constantly with his wife Bdour Nino. He decided to build a church. This church is considered one of the largest and most beautiful churches in Amman. It was built with the outset of the third millennium. He and his wife were granted membership of the Holy Knights of the Holy Sepulcher charity society. He was given the title Knight of the Holy Sepulcher and his wife was given the title Lady of the Holy Sepulcher by Patriarch Michele Sabbah. These titles are given to the families that pray together and live in unity, as well as provide financial aid.

Patriarch Fouad Twal bestowed on him the title of “commander” in charity societies. Their son Osama was given the title of Knight of the Holy Sepulcher where his wife Suhair Khoury was given the title Lady of the Holy Sepulcher.

His success at work and the success of building a church in the center of the Jordanian capital indicate the state of security and stability that allows every citizen to work, to excel, and to build a house of God denoting respect for religious freedom and freedom of worship. This initiative encouraged other families to build churches in various parts of the Kingdom, including churches at the Baptism Site. Karam Mseih, his wife, and their children did good deeds to the Jordanian society, including helping the poor and needy Jordanians and refugees. Several initiatives were launched in the name of the family including support for Al Hussein Cancer Center, combating violence against women, and several others.

We are proud to have such people who love their country, leadership and all shades of the Jordanian people. While we are proud of the achievements made by Christian Arab citizens in serving their country's economy, Karam Mseih serves as the best model to be emulated in serving national unity and to conveying sincere love to all people. The good national spirit does not nullify sincere faith. This sincere faith must lead man to true patriotism.

His Majesty the King never misses any opportunity to say that "Muslims and Christians in Jordan make up a single family that works jointly in the interest of the country, its progress and its prosperity." At a time when there are reports about the diminishing number of Christians in the East as well as the decline of their presence and effectiveness in their communities, Karam Mseih dispels doubts and shows that whoever works hard can achieve wonderful and pioneering goals, as well as contribute to the prosperity and progress of societies.

Lord Jesus Christ said: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. (Matthew 13:44-45)

On behalf of parish priests, from different Churches, and on behalf of the Catholic Center for Studies and Media in Jordan, I say thank you for all your donations and love, for your patriotism and for your faith.
