Latin Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan Bishop William Shomali paid a visit to the Catholic Center for Studies (CCSM) in Amman on Wednesday, April 5. He was accompanied by parish priest of the Church of Annunciation in Jabal Weibdeh Fr. Butrus Hijazin.

Upon arrival, he was welcomed by CCSM Director Fr. Rifat Bader and members of CCSM staff.

During the visit, Bishop Shomali got acquainted with the activities conducted by the CCSM and its role in disseminating the message of mercy and peace in Jordan and the world. He also lauded CCSM’s contribution to having the Church’s message and views carried in various media outlets in Jordan and worldwide.

Rounding up his visit, the bishop made the following statement: “I am greatly proud of the Catholic Center for Studies (CCSM) in Amman for the achievements made over the past five years since the establishment of the CCSM and the 14th anniversary of the launching of the abouna.org website which placed the Church on various media outlets in Jordan, the Arab world, and worldwide. This great effort resulted in having Church news and analyses posted on various foreign sites and consequently led to maintaining the spiritual enlightenment of the Church. I hope the CCSM, as well as its Arabic- and English-language websites, will continue to maintain the bright image of the Christian Church in Jordan. Many thanks to CCSM Director Fr. Rifat Bader and the CCSM members of staff for their distinguished work."

Fr. Bader congratulated Bishop Shomali on assuming his duties as Latin patriarchal vicar for Jordan. He also presented him with a CCSM shield in appreciation of his efforts and wished him success in his duties that serve the mission of the Church which is represented in supporting peace and love among all the components of the Jordanian society.

Bishop Shomali had earlier visited the Restaurant of Mercy located off the Church of Annunciation in Jabal Weibdeh where he praised the efforts of the employees which represent the humanitarian mission of Caritas as it marks its 50th anniversary in Jordan.

The restaurant was launched marking the start of the Jubilee Year of Mercy. The Latin Diocese in Amman, in cooperation with Jordan Caritas, had announced that some 300 to 500 hot meals would be served for free to the poor and the needy on daily bases.
