Vatican Radio (Italian section) and

The Italian section of Vatican Radio on Friday, July 4, interviewed Patriarch Louis Raphaël I Sako, Chaldean Catholic patriarch of Babylon and head of the Chaldean Catholic Church, who spoke about the situation of Christians in the Middle East and called on the whole world to help the Christian communities remain in their countries.

He referred to the major problems faced by Christians, foremost of which being persecution, and pointed out in this regard that the Christians in the region are conveying a message of great importance as they express their basic values for the region and the Islamic world.

Stressing that Christians should help the extremists to be more open to recognizing the importance of respect for all, Patriarch Sako stressed that the situation has recently improved somehow, but fear of the future continues in view of the continuation of armed conflicts and because the ISIS has not been defeated yet where people are afraid of this ideology facing non-Muslims.

Patriarch Sako also touched on the situation in the Nineveh Plain, pointing out that the Church has started the process of rebuilding the destroyed houses. He added that the Christians do want to return to their homes, but the difficulties still exist.
