AUM, GSCEIJ sign memorandum of understanding

The American University of Madaba signed on Monday, August 28, a memorandum of understanding with the General Secretariat of Christian Educational Institutions in Jordan (GSCEIJ).

The agreement was signed by AUM President Nabil Ayoub and GSCEIJ Secretary General Fr. Rashid Mustarih.

The MoU calls for providing scholarships to exceeding students from all the schools affiliated with the General Secretariat of Christian Educational Institutions in Jordan so as to help them attend the AUM for the bachelor's degree programme. It also calls for fostering outstanding students' creative abilities, as well as their scientific and academic knowledge through qualified academic cadres. The MoU also provides for local and international competitive opportunities for students through shoving them towards success and excellence by qualifying them for the job market.

The signing ceremony was attended by Latin Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan Bishop William Shomali, Director General of the Latin Patriarchate Schools in Jordan Fr. Ashraf Nimri, Director of the Catholic Center for Studies and Media in Jordan Fr. Rif'at Bader and senior AUM officials and staff.

The AUM has been able to establish eighteen programmes accredited by the Jordanian Higher Education Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission (HEAC-QA), and authorized to grant degrees for all eighteen programmes by the New Hampshire Higher Education Commission (NHHEC). It also offers the students a rewarding educational experience as well as stay up-to-date with market demand.

As for community engagement, AUM helps develop the innovation spirit for high school students, 9th to 12th grades by developing their ideas into projects based on scientific research methods. These projects will be entered into a national competition organized annually by the Jordanian Ministry of Education. Successful projects will be submitted to the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), which convenes annually in the USA and is supported by the Intel Corporation. There are additional multiple fairs, which convene in many parts of the world, in which the students may also participate.
