Bishop Ayyash elected patriarchal vicar for Roman Catholics in Jerusalem

The Synod of the Melkite Roman Catholics elected on Friday, February 9, Bishop Yasser Ayyash as the patriarchal vicar for the Melkite Catholic Church in Jerusalem.

The Synod was opened in Rabwa on February 5 with Patriarch Yousef Absi delivering an address during which he thanked the Almighty God and reviewed the issues to be discussed during the Synod meetings.

At the outset of the Synod meetings, the bishops sent a message to Pope Francis asking his pastoral blessings and highlighting the major issues on the agenda. They also expressed their appreciation to his stands in support of peace in the region as well as for the suffering and marginalized humanity.

During the Synod sessions, the members of the Synod were elected which included Bishop Youhanna Jinbert, Bishop Youhanna Darwish, Bishop Georges Haddad and Bishop George Baq'ouni.
