Fr. Bader: ‘The Hashemite custodianship is Palestinians' will’

Former Prime Minister Taher Masri has lauded the initiative titled, “Jerusalem is in your custodianship” which is designed to have a million signatures that ascertain the rightful Hashemite custodianship of the Islamic and Christian sanctities in Jerusalem.

In a ceremony marking the launching of the initiative at Le Royale Hotel in Amman, on Tuesday, January 9, Masri asserted that Jerusalem will always remain the source of historical developments in the region and the world. He added that the catastrophic moments, which the Holy City is experiencing nowadays, is historic in terms of determining the gravity of developments in the region.

Director of the initiative Razan Armouti said that this initiative, which reaffirms the Hashemite’s custodianship of Jerusalem, aims at having signatures of Jordanians from all Jordanian governorates that ascertain the Hashemite’s custodianship of the Islamic and Christian sanctities. She added that this will be forwarded to His Majesty King Abdullah II to confirm the Jordanian position in light of the latest US decision on Jerusalem.

Director of the Catholic Center for Studies and Media (CCSM) in Jordan Fr. Rif’at Bader said that it is a source of pride to participate in this blessed day which affirms the Hashemite’s legitimate, religious and political right to custodianship of the Islamic and Christianity sanctities in Jerusalem as underlined by the national charters. He added that the custodianship of the sanctities is the will of the Palestinian people who chose the Hashemite leadership to be the absolute custodian.

Fr. Bader pointed out that the Christians in Jordan and Palestine take pride in His Majesty King Abdullah II’s financial contribution to the restoration of the Christian holy sites which included the restoration of the Holy Sepulcher and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. This ascertains that the custodianship of the sanctities is factual and concrete. He concluded that it is our duty to support this custodianship and ask the Jordanians to sign the document which expresses the Jordanian people's rallying behind King Abdullah II.
