Fr. Hanna Kildani named as Latin patriarchal vicar for Nazareth

Apostolic Administrator of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem Most Rev. Pierebatista Pizzabala named on Tuesday, June 14, Fr. Dr. Hanna Kildani as Latin patriarchal vicar for Nazareth.

Fr. Hanna Kildani was born in Karak in 1955 to a family originating from Madaba. In 1968 he joined the Lower Seminary of Beit Jala and the Higher Seminary in Beit Jala in 1973. In 1976, he obtained the bachelor degree in philosophy from the Beit Jala Seminary, the bachelor degree in history from the Beirut Arab University in 1978 and later a bachelor degree in theology from Seminary in Beit Jala in 1979.

He was ordained priest in Madaba by Mgr Ne’meh Sam’an in 1979 and later served as assistant to Fr. Luigi Favro in the Latin Parish of Ramallah.

In 1980, he became assistant to Parish Christ the King, Al Misdar in Amman, and enrolled at St. Joseph University Beirut Lebanon to complete his M.A. degree in history which he obtained in 1982.

In 1986 he served with other priests from “Gift of Faith” in Abu Dhabi, at a time when Mgr Germolli was Apostolic Nuncio in Arab Gulf states.

In 1987, he obtained his Ph.D. degree in history from St. Joseph University in Lebanon. His published Ph. D. thesis was in Arabic and titled, “Modern Christianity in Jordan and Palestine” in Arabic.

In 1989 – 2002 he served as parish priest in Fuheis, Jordan, and in 1990-2011 he served as judge of the Ecclesiastical Latin Tribunal, Appeal Tribunal in Amman.

Serving in 1999 as member of the Christian Muslim Board of Jordan,he became in 2001-2008 general director of the Latin Schools in Jordan and later general secretary of the Christian Educational Institutions in Jordan.

In 2002, he served as general secretary (chancellor) of the Latin Vicariate in Amman, and in 2003 as parish priest of Marj Al-Hamam in Amman. He also served in the years 2002-2007 as consultant of the Pontifical Council of Inter-religious Dialogue
In 2010, he became the general secretary of the Council of Church Leaders in Jordan, member of the National Team of Jordan for Mental Health and commander of the Equestrian Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem.
