Will Nazareth call its new patriarchal vicar "Hanna Kildani II"?

By Fr. Rif'at Bader/ en.abouna.org

On July 3, 1993, Bishop Giacinto-Boulos Marcuzzo, who is of Italian origin and fond of Arabs, was ordained archbishop and named Latin patriarchal vicar for Nazareth. He succeeded late Bishop Hanna Kildani--of the city of mosaics, Madaba, in eastern Jordan--who served as the Latin patriarchal vicar of the township of Lord Jesus, of his Virgin Mother, and of Saint Joseph of Nazareth from 1964 to 1993. It is said that Pope Paul VI named him as bishop during his pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1964.

Today, after almost 25 years, or marking the silver jubilee of his ordination, Archbishop Giacinto-Boulos Marcuzzo returns to the beloved city, Jerusalem, to continue his mission by the site of the Holy Sepulcher, where religions maintain roots, where the crux of the Arab-Israeli conflict lies, as well as where the essence of the Islamic-Christian relations and the 13 churches in Jerusalem with their leaders, believers and stones are...

He returns to Jerusalem as he hands over the Nazareth position to the son of Jordan, Madaba, who inaugurated a few months ago a new church in Jordan which carries a dear name, namely the Martyrs of Jordan Church who fell in early centuries of Christianity…

Bidding farewell is painful on the one hand for the bishop--who loved the Galilee with its Nazareth, lake, and beatifications--as well as for Fr. Hanna Kildani who leaves the good and loving Hashemite Jordan for Nazareth which is witnessing several pastoral, humanitarian, social and political challenges due to political complications. Furthermore, these effected changes bring joy as the Church authority wants to show the unity of the Church in the Holy Land, regardless of the political differences which have never been spiritual. We convey good wishes to Bishop Boulos who assumes his new post in noble Jerusalem and Patriarchal Vicar Hanna Kildani on this new post which he will, as usual, conduct with brilliance that reflects an open mind , a good spirit, and a humble heart.

"Hanna Kildani" returns to Nazareth, to live next to renowned Basilica of the Annunciation. He is ready to work assiduously and to invoke in the minds of the early generations the name of Bishop Hanna Kildani… to which a new name could be added…

May God's mercy be upon the former one. May God protect the second one and his predecessor Marcuzzo, who is heading to Jerusalem.
