The Midwifery Department at the Tarek Ahmad Juffali Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences – Bethlehem University organized a community health initiative in Tuqu’ Municipality, east of Bethlehem, titled “With Awareness, There Is Life.” The event was held within the framework of Service Learning, under the supervision of Ms. Fatima Madani Hammad, Chairperson of the Midwifery Department, and instructor Ms. Dalia Elias.
The event was organized in collaboration with the Deanship of Students, with the Youth-Friendly Health Center (NAFAS) and the Palestinian Medical Relief Society.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness among women about breast, cervical, and ovarian cancers, emphasizing early detection and prevention as key tools for saving lives. More than 35 women attended the event, which featured educational talks, interactive sessions, and free clinical breast examinations conducted by the midwifery students; four women were referred for further tests following initial checkups.
The day concluded with a powerful message from participants: “Your strength is in your awareness — awareness saves lives.”
This initiative reflects Bethlehem University’s ongoing commitment to empowering women, promoting community health, and preparing students to serve society through compassion, professionalism, and education.
