On November 29, Caritas Jordan Director Wael Suleiman and General Director of Latin Patriarchate Schools in Jordan Wisam Mansour signed an agreement which aims to bolster the educational process of Syrian refugee students enrolled in public schools and others who are not enrolled in schools. The agreement also involves kindergarten students, plans to improve the school environment, and plans to eliminate illiteracy.
The agreement provides for applying educational activities in seven schools that include 1,040 students in six governorates, namely Amman, Madaba, Karak, Huson, Mafraq, and Balqa. It is worthy to note that these projects are supported by the German government through Caritas Germany, as well as the Austrian Ministry of the Interior through Caritas Austria and Catholic Relief. Services (CRS).
In 2017, Caritas Jordan celebrated its 50th anniversary with new momentum dedicated to building bridges of love and solidarity, healing wounds, and extending a helping hand that consoles the hopeless.
Caritas Jordan has been playing a key role in the field of promoting education by ensuring the vulnerable children's rights to education. It has been providing holistic services to refugees and vulnerable members of the local community in various areas including this field by focusing on providing learning support services and early childhood education (ECE) for refugee children.
During the school year 2018-2019, Caritas Jordan--in cooperation with the network partners of Caritas Austria, Caritas Germany and the Catholic Relief Services--provided early childhood education for 2,800 refugee children in 27 kindergarten facilities across nine governorates of Jordan, ensuring that children’s right to education is being upheld even in times of crisis.
Within the kindergarten program, the curriculum is complemented by psychosocial activities and counselling, allowing children to enhance their socio-emotional well-being while educators are trained to apply child-centered methods of instruction to support children’s development and prepare them for primary education.
Caritas Jordan has been playing an invaluable and indispensable role designed to alleviate the pain of the suffering people as well as spreading the message of love and peace.
