A Bible competition in Bethlehem

In cooperation with the association "Sons of Earth", and thanks to the support of the Pontifical Mission and funds raised by some local organizations, this year a Bible competition has been launched, for the first time in Palestine, with the theme: " Apostles of Palestine to understand the Bible".

Fr. Ibrahim Faltas of the Custody of the Holy Land says: "It is a wonderful idea to attend a quiz launched by Bethlehem, at a time when we recently welcomed the relic of Saint Jerome who translated the Holy Bible from Hebrew and the Greek into Latin, thanks to his good work, the Holy Bible has become famous all over the world, so we hope that this competition will come to our homes too."

Mayor of Bethlehem Anton Salman says: "A competition that aims to deepen the concept of relationship with others, to better understand the sense of belonging and presence in the Holy Land. We hope that our children will prove to be active and involved in this competition, which should lead to the circulation of the Holy Bible within Palestinian society ". Among the participants there are students from different Christian schools in Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. The organizers tried to bring the same participants to deepen their knowledge of the Holy Bible and to strengthen their bonds of friendship and their well-being.

Fadi Ghattas of Bethlehem says, "This competition is certainly important, because it addresses the Word of God. It is a mission for new generations to explore the contents of the Bible. The contents of the competition have been chosen by the leaders of the Church and certainly young people expect to get even closer to the Word of God" A competition that is to be a window through which young people can contemplate a broader vision: charity, tolerance and adherence to the Word of God, despite the manifestations of violence and persecution in the world.

President of the "Sons of Earth" Association Fr. Ibrahim Shomali says, “ At the end of the day the Bible represents a person called Jesus Christ, He who was born and lived His life - similar to us in every way - except for sin. He died for our good and is risen from the dead. His teachings and his actions are also reflected in this competition. Greater awareness helps a young person to get to know Jesus Christ better, and so making him capable, through Him and with Him, to face all challenges, to play the role of a pacifist, and to be a seed of charity that spreads around him.”
