Light up even one candle… for peace

By Fr. Dr. Rif'at Bader :

Peace is still absent, while "the Nakba" still heavily burdens the hearts of the people of Gaza, at a time when children continue to grow up in one year as if it were 20 years. Is there a prospect for peace? Will the dove of peace find a landing place amidst the rubble and wreckage?

The new initiative has undoubtedly been presented to light up even a small candle in the midst of this Gazan darkness in the wake of a time when no one expected the formulation of a plan, broad outlines, and a roadmap for peace, despite the fact that this plan neither dresses all the wounds nor quenches the thirst for a lasting just, and a comprehensive peace.

Our dear Jordan, under the leadership of the Hashemite falcon, His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein, viewed the plan as a realistic solution necessitated by the current circumstances designed to bring about an immediate ceasefire that is afflicting humans and properties, freezing the veins of children, and preventing them from dreaming of a future.

We in Jordan, while rallying in support of His Majesty the King, call on all parties to accept this solution after two years of daily, escalation, and unjust sacrifices by the Palestinian people, who have been exhausted and have their blood shed. Rejecting this proposal would lead to more bloodshed and the elimination of all forms of life that still exists in the people living under occupation.

In line with Jordan's realistic stance, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, said in central Europe--from the capital of Catholicism in the world, namely the Vatican--while answering journalists' questions that the plan is realistic, and that we hope that all parties would accept it, so that the conflagration would stop and the prisoners would be set free.

In noble Jerusalem, the first Patriarch of the Holy City who become a cardinal two years ago, namely Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa has received Archbishop Giuseppe Baturi, secretary general of the Italian Episcopal Conference, during which an announcement was made on building a hospital by the Latin Patriarchate that has been hosting hundreds of displaced people for two years while serving as a compassionate mother and a healing panacea for their wounds and being  like its sister Church of Saint Porphyrius having also marked a number of martyrs who fell in the church.

As for the hospital which is planned to be built, no relevant details have been released. Yet, it will in the future welcome families, children, the elderly, and women from all shades of Gaza's population regardless of ethnicity, religion, or sect as humanitarian work transcends barriers and differences. The hospital will, of course, be a candle lit in the darkness on the path of the dawning of the sun of justice and peace.

May the candle of the planned hospital to bring peace in Gaza be a new one, and may the Patriarchate Hospital be another candle. The world is bleak and unjust, as one candle after another may contribute to the emergence of the dawn of freedom in full splendor.
