Caritas Jerusalem plays an indispensable role in the Holy Land

By Munir Bayouk/ en.abouna.org :

Caritas Jerusalem has all the times been playing an active role in the field of alleviating the suffering of the people in the Holy Land by undertaking viable and propitious solutions designed to reverse difficult situations that erupt from time to time and that wreak havoc on several walks of life.

Amidst the difficult situation experienced by the people living in the Gaza Strip and the  eruption of polio disease as a result of the deteriorating health conditions, Caritas Jerusalem has undertaken an expeditious and remarkable step in a show of dedication and resilience to facilitate polio vaccines to children in the Gaza Strip during the current period of intense conflict.

This crucial decision undertaken on September 1, 2024 was designed to make  a significant contribution by setting up two health centers in Deir Al Balah--in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health--which manifests Caritas Jerusalem's commitment to safeguarding vulnerable populations during adversity.

Caritas Jerusalem has also deployed a total of 14 medical teams across the Gaza Strip, whereby the vaccination efforts are concentrated on two key medical points, namely Abu Oureif and Al-Birqeh in Deir Al Balah. Its participation in the polio vaccination campaign represents a vital effort to safeguard the health of Gaza's most vulnerable residents. Mr. Anton Asfar, secretary general of Caritas Jerusalem stated, "Our work in Gaza is a testament to our unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of the community, even under the most difficult conditions.”

It worthy to note that Caritas Jerusalem has all the time conducted an emergency plan ready to assist the needy population as soon as the situation allows. Caritas Internationalis Secretary General Alistair Dutton says, “Our Confederation assures Caritas Jerusalem of its support. We pray for peace and urge both sides to uphold international humanitarian law and guarantee access to humanitarian assistance to people in need”.

Caritas Jerusalem has an unwavering commitment to serving the most vulnerable people throughout the Holy Land. Its mission to alleviate suffering and foster resilience is more vital than ever, as this is concomitant with dedication to providing principled humanitarian assistance, supporting recovery, and staying close to the people affected by the conflict.

The activities carried out by Caritas Jerusalem are a manifestation of love and mercy as mentioned in the Holy Bible.
