Palm Sunday: A divine trip leading to spiritual salvation

By Munir Bayouk/ en.abouna.org :

On Sunday March 13, Christians worldwide mark Palm Sunday. This day is quite reflective on an important event as reported in the Holy Bible which states that, “The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem.  They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” (John: 12: 12-13)

On Palm Sunday, Lord Jesus enters Jerusalem in triumph. He was seated on a colt, welcomed by the shouts of joy and praise of his disciples. That was a great day. It was a day of welcoming the Lord in this Holy City. The people were joyful as it was a day of jubilation to welcome the King of Peace and Mercy whose presence entrenched a message of peace. These people welcomed the Lord with open arms and let Him settle in their hearts and minds. In this regard, it is not only important to mark Palm Sunday by taking part in processions and waving palm branches, but what is more important is to open our hearts and let the Lord settle there while seeking His guidance and help as we cross the rocky paths of life towards the shores of safety.

This year, the celebrations are tinged with sadness as clouds laden with worry and concern cover the horizon with the prevailing critical situations that engulfs the Holy Land in particular or rather the Middle East in general. On that day, the crowds cheered and lauded Lord Jesus as he entered Jerusalem, and it is our turn as well to cheer and welcome the Lord’s guidance in every walk of life. Today, Christians are entitled to invite Lord Jesus to stay permanently in their hearts while they joyfully wave palm branches. It is a day that is followed a week later by the Feast of the Resurrection (commonly referred to as Easter) which marks Lord Jesus’ rising from the dead after His crucifixion, a divine event that should shove people away from grudge, hatred, and all acts reflecting evil into divine-inspired activities that reflect love.

It is important at this time to trust in the forgiveness of the Lord and His victory over death. By doing so, we are set on a path of following his life and pattern, while joyfully experiencing his glorious resurrection, for Palm Sunday represents a Divine trip that culminates in Lord Jesus’ victorious rising from the dead.

Happy Palm Sunday.
