Why do good people suffer from tragedies that befall them?

By Munir Bayouk/ en.abouna.org :

In our world catastrophes continue to rain down on people indiscriminately. Yet, good people who have strong faith suffer as well from time to time from hardships that negatively affect every walk of their lives. Thus, so long that God is good and loving, why does He allow evil and suffering to exist?

Another question arises which states that "so long that is a God who is omnipotent and omniscient, how can He tolerate evil, injustice and the suffering of the innocent? Inquiring about why God permits evil is difficult to so how things go as a verse in the Holy Bible say, “All things work together for the good of those who love and trust the Lord and are called according to his purposes.” (Romans 8:28)

The Holy Bible states explicitly that the Lord does not tempt anyone saying, "When tempted, no one should say, 'God is tempting me.' For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death." (James 1:13-15)

Tragedies in our modern times have further exacerbated compared to old times as technology, arms race, wars, diseases have increased drastically to unbearable limits. But it is to be admitted that when strong winds blow, the Lord does not stop the wind but protects the people who trust in Him within the wind. So when we cannot control the wind, the Lord adjusts the sails of life.

A question that often arises, "Why didn't God merely create a world where tragedy and suffering didn't exist?" The answer is: He did! Genesis 1:31 says: "God saw all that he had made, and it was very good."

So in order for us to experience love, God bestowed on us free will. But unfortunately, humans have abused this very free will by rejecting God and walking away from Him which resulted in the introduction of evil into the world.

God instilled goodness, love, peace, and harmony in this world, yet humans' lust to get hold of everything through greed introduced evil into a world that should be characterized with love and mercy as God made it.

In the midst of the prevailing evil, the Lord intervenes to help those who trust in Him by alleviation their suffering and opening the gates that lead to safety.

The Holy Bible abounds with verses that provide divine promises of the Lord's care and protection for those who trust in him, whereby the Lord comes to give life abundantly. ''The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.'' (John 10:10)

It is important to seek Lord Jesus' permanent protection and say, "Our Lord, thank You for Your divine protection and the support that upholds us. Please keep Your commandments in our mind. Give us the discernment to see temptation for what it is. Give us the wisdom and humility to allow You to move in us so that we’ll take the way of escape You have already provided. Amen.
