Amman: Bishop Hanna Jallouf celebrates Holy Mass at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church

Within the framework of his first visit to Jordan following  his episcopal ordination as Latin bishop of Syria, Bishop Hanna Jallouf prayed the Holy Rosary with the parishioners of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Tla’ Al-‘Al, Amman, on Tuesday May 28 marking the blessed Marian Month.  Then, he celebrated Holy Mass which was concelebrated by parish priest Fr. Dr. Rif’at Bader and assistant priests Fr. Wajdi Twal and Fr. Ala’ Ba’ir, in the presence of  Fr. Rashid Mustarih, Franciscan Fr. Antoine, Fr. Hugo from the Order of the Incarnate Word, and deacon Jubran Salameh.

 

Bishop Jallouf,  was director of Terra Santa College from 1992 to 2001. He also served as secretary general of Christian schools, and was named by Pope Francis as Latin bishop in Syria in September 2023. Fr. Bader welcomed Bishop Jallouf in the Holy Land of Jordan, reviewed his priestly activities, and referred to Pope Francis’ bestowing on him the Mother Teresa of Calcutta Award for Charitable Work in 2022. He concluded his welcoming address by emphasizing the importance of praying for peace in Jordan, Syria, and Middle Eastern countries, especially for peace in the Holy Land.

 

In his homily,  Bishop Jallouf spoke about the virtues of Blessed Mary and Her love for her children. He also thanked the parish priest for his kind invitation to visit the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, namely  the church whose inauguration he attended in 2000 with Patriarch of Jerusalem at the time Michel Sabbah.

 

Later, Bishop Jalloouf administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to the young woman, Lara Handal, this was followed by hymns. After the Holy Mass, the parishioners welcomed the bishop and exchanged with him greetings in the church square.
