Amman: The Latin Ecclesiastical Court holds a special workshop for the banking sector

The Latin Ecclesiastical Court in Amman, which is affiliated with the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, has held for the first time a special workshop for the banking sector focusing on the legal, financial and administrative procedures regarding issues relevant to inheritance, estates, as well as guardianship of minors and those under interdiction.

 

The workshop was attended by representatives of the Central Bank of Jordan, Jordanian banks, and the Association of Banks in Jordan. It addressed the jurisdiction of ecclesiastical courts in personal status matters, as well as the interconnection and implementation of their decisions and judicial orders before the competent official authorities and the banking sector.

 

Head of the First Instance Court Fr. Dr. Aktham Hijazin, said at the outset of the workshop that it takes place in order to enhance cooperation and understanding between the ecclesiastical courts and the banking institutions, due to the presence of common denominations in work, and therefore the workshop seeks to facilitate procedures for all parties, and to speed up procedures in all cases in a way that guarantee serving citizens, and to preserving the rights of everyone, including inheritors, minors, persons under guardianship, and those under interdiction, in addition to those who have rights.

 

 Judge Fr. Dr. Humam Khazouz, presented the topic of the workshop and presented a comprehensive explanation on constitutional and legal perspectives. Then, he touched in detail on the procedures followed in the Latin Ecclesiastical Court with regard to issues relevant to control of financial estates, guardianship of minors, and how banks deal with judicial warrants issued by the court, among others.

 

The workshop included extensive dialogue that took place between the Ecclesiastical Court and representatives of the banking sector.  Some practical proposals were also put forward to facilitate communication through memorandums exchanged between the court and the banking sector.
