“We are constantly experiencing loss, constantly experiencing this fear and constant threat,” said Zoriana Lukavetska, director of child and youth programming for Caritas Ukraine. “This is an additional psychological burden for everyone and for children, in particular.”
Caritas centers across Ukraine have implemented programs to respond to the psychosocial needs of children grappling with the trauma of war. The programs include counseling, theater and cooking, life skills training and more. Through its support of vulnerable children, Caritas Ukraine aims to provide a sense of stability and safety for its beneficiaries.
“I really love Caritas. It’s in my heart,” said Maya Liubchenko, a Caritas beneficiary. “I want Caritas to be in every city in Ukraine.”
