DRC: Inauguration of Radio Maria in Lubumbashi with songs, dances of joy

Jean Paul Kayihura/ www.radiomaria.org :

In a context of prayer, gratitude and celebration, Radio Maria was inaugurated on February 25, 2023, in the Archdiocese of Lubumbashi, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The Archbishop of Lumumbashi HE Mgr Fulgence Muteba Mugalu, presided over the Holy Mass, the blessing of the studios and the grotto of Radio Maria. Some 33 priests and many faithful, including many young people, were present at this concelebration. The joy expressed in song and dance comes from a heart that thanks the Madonna. The Virgin Mary made a beautiful gift to the inhabitants of Lubumbashi. This archdiocese is geographically immense, with more than 60,000 km2, which is why the presence of Radio Maria on this earth represents all the more reason a gift from Heaven.

Catholics represent approximately 55 per cent of the total population, all will now have the possibility of praying with Radio Maria and listening to programs relating to Christian and human formation. From today the Word of God enters the homes of people, even those who are miles away from the city of Lubumbashi, in places where priests are unable to organize prayers and other pastoral activities. Thanks to the frequencies of Radio Maria, the inhabitants will be able to connect and listen to the radio day and night.

In addition, the Archbishop's sermons and pastoral messages will also be able to reach the faithful in real time. During his homily, the Archbishop said that he greatly appreciated the pastoral care of Radio Maria, bringing the light of the Gospel to the suburbs.

The day of the inauguration was also an opportunity to pray for all the generous people who contributed financially to the realization of the Radio Maria project in Lubumbashi. The Democratic Republic of Congo is a “country-continent” with 40 per cent of the Catholic population (approximately 96 million). This means that there are still many people who hunger for the Word of God. We are now working to have more frequencies for the purpose of carrying out evangelism everywhere. Indeed, faith must always be nourished by prayer, by the Word of God, an objective that can be achieved with missionary generosity.
