“Comunione di persone” (communion of persons) is the exhibition that brings 66 portraits by Greek artists to Rome. It celebrates 40 years since Greece established diplomatic ties with the Holy See.
The exhibition about the human being is in the Palazzo della Cancelleria.
Art historian Maria Migadi says,“We chose artworks that are portraits in order to show the feeling of every era, from the post-Byzantine period until the present day through portraiture. So, it's a community of persons, it's a society of persons being created in this room.”
She adds, “We are very honored, and we are very grateful to the ancient Greek heritage, but we are not only that. Although because of some political turbulence, we were not able to be part of the Renaissance movements and all the great movements that Europe has to show in the past centuries, but this doesn't mean that we didn't have light and creation.”
Greek Ambassador to the Holy See Panos Kalogeropoulos says, “The Greek language and the Greek philosophical thought of that second, third centuries AD, helped enormously to formulate what Christianity became later as a world religion.”
The Greek mbassador to the Holy See adds that exhibitions like this one are a reminder of Greece's role in the origins of Christianity.
The goal is to showcase the great Greek artists of modern times. Among them are Nikolaos Ghyzis, Georgios Iakovidis and Giannis Moralis.
Some of the works of art come from the National Gallery of Athens, but most are from private art collectors. The ensemble is a “communion of people” that invites visitors to try to understand the identity of each individual person.
