Jerusalem: Cardinal Pizzaballa holds the annual meeting for the consecrated women

lpj.org :

On Sunday, September 15, 2024, His Beatitude Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, led the annual meeting for the consecrated women of Jerusalem (Ordo Virginum) in the presence of Fr. Marcelo Gallardo, IVE, Chaplain of the OV in Jerusalem, and six consecrated women.

The Ordo Virginum, one of the earliest forms of consecrated life in the Church dating back to Apostolic times, was revitalized after the Second Vatican Council. This vocation allows women to dedicate their lives to Christ through a vow of celibacy and obedience while living in the secular world, without being part of a specific community. This year, the Diocese of Jerusalem has 15 consecrated women, including eight in Jerusalem and seven in Jordan.

During the meeting, discussions focused on the challenges and opportunities of living out the Christian vocation in the contemporary context of Jerusalem. The Patriarch delivered a brief reflection on passages from the Acts of the Apostles, emphasizing the four essential elements of early Christian unity: The Teaching of the Apostles (doctrine), Communion (community life), Breaking of Bread (Eucharist and sacraments), and Prayer (constant relationship with God).

They discussed ways to witness to the Christian faith through their service and work, as well as support the mission of the Church of Jerusalem, and strengthen connections with consecrated women in Jordan.
