King bestows on Patriarch Pizzaballa King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein Order for Distinction of the First Degree

His Majesty King Abdullah II patronized the national ceremony marking Jordan’s 76th Independence Day on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 which was held at Al Husseiniya Palace in Amman.


The ceremony was attended by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein Ibn Abdullah II, as well as a number of Royal family members, senior officials and officers, and members of the diplomatic corps.

During the ceremony, which included presentations that embody the importance of independence anniversary in the hearts of the Jordanians and reflects on the progress attained in Jordan, His Majesty King Abdullah bestowed on Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem His Beatitude Pierbattista Pizzaballa the King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein Order for Distinction of the First Degree in appreciation of his outstanding role and contribution to spreading tolerance, consolidating common living in Jerusalem, and for his defence of Christian sanctities in the city.


His Majesty the King also bestowed the Independence Medal of the First Order on martyr journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh in appreciation of the prominent role she played in covering events as a field reporter and of her distinction in performing her duties with courage from within the occupied Palestinian territories by conveying the suffering of the Palestinian people.
