Lebanon: Roundup of the second day of the Continental Synodal Assembly of the Catholic Churches of the Middle East

The sessions of the Continental Synodal Assembly of the Catholic Churches of the Middle East resumed onthe second day, Tuesday, February 14, 2023, in the Chapel of Bethany, Harissa, Lebanon with morning prayers according to the rite of the Latin Church in Arabic, English and French.

 

Then the morning session began with the presentation of the report of the participating countries in the presence Head  of the Council of Eastern Catholic Patriarchs Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Al-Rahi, Patriarch of Coptic Catholic Patriarch Ibrahim Isaac, Syriac Catholic Patriarch Ignatius III Yonan, Patriarch of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church Youssef Absi, Chaldean Patriarch Cardinal Louis Raphael Sako, Patriarch of the Armenian Catholic Church Raphael Bedros XXI Minassian, and  Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem His Beatitude Pierbattista Pizzaballa.

 

In the afternoon, the participants were divided into ten groups to discuss the most important contents of the relevant countries' report by focusing on the most important points and then listening to the Holy Spirit. In the evening,  Patriarch Youssef Al-Absi celebrated Holy Mass according to the Byzantine.

 

After dinner, time was  allocated for presenting a cultural activity about one of the participating countries, and this time it was on Iraq, where Father Amir Kammo and the accompanying team presented an overview of Iraq with a film presenting the civilization and heritage of Iraq and another short film that addresses the Christians’ adherence to the land and to their roots in this country with the insistence to stay in the country despite their suffering. Then the day ended with an hour of prostration and contemplative prayer by the participating youth.
