In a step towards enhancing the social and economic situations in Lebanon, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) and Makhzoumi Foundation to implement a loan provision program aiming at empowering micro, small and medium enterprises located in North and Akkar governorates.
This signing took place during an official meeting held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the headquarters of the Makhzoumi Foundation in Beirut. It was attended by the Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches Professor Michel Abs, and the President of Makhzoumi Foundation Mrs. May Makhzoumi.
Professor Abs was accompanied by an MECC delegation, including the Director of the Lebanon’s Office at the Diakonia and Social Service Department Ms. Nina Hallak, the Financial Manager Ms. Laudy El Khoury, the Business Development Consultant Mr. Antoine Haidar, and the Financial Analyst Mrs. Hiba Traboulsi.
Alongside Mrs. May Makhzoumi, attendees from Makhzoumi Foundation were its General Manager Mr. Samer El Safah, the Consultant to the Board Mr. Nabih Naamani, the Administrative Manager for the Microcredit Program Mr. Vartkes Keutelian, and the MicroCredit Program Operations Manager Ms. Sawsan Chebaro.
During the meeting, the attendees discussed the most prominent developments in Lebanon, particularly the difficult social and economic conditions that are casting a shadow over the country. They also emphasized the importance of instilling a culture of social entrepreneurship in communities, emphasizing the need to support entrepreneurs fairly in order to help them invest in and develop their businesses.
In addition, the attendees looked forward to continuing cooperation and coordination on future programs for the benefit of humanity and society.
