On Friday, March 1, 2024, His Holiness Pope Francis named Charge d'affaires of the Apostolic Nunciature in Cyprus Monsignor Mauro Lalli, as the new apostolic nuncio to Papua New Guinea.

Monsignor Mauro Lalli was born in Italy on September 17, 1965. He was ordained a priest on July 14, 1990. He joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See on July 1, 1999, where he subsequently served in the apostolic nunciatures in Guatemala, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mozambique, Romania, Croatia, India, Iraq, Jordan and Cyprus.
