Patriarch Rahi starts pastoral, official visit to Jordan

Maronite Patriarch of Antioch and head of the Maronite Church Cardinal Bechara Boutros al-Rahi arrived on Sunday, December 4, in Jordan on a five-day pastoral visit during which he will hold meetings with officials, conduct religious tours, as well as hold meetings with the Maronite parishioners marking the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Saint Charbel Parish in Amman.

The visit includes touring touristic and religious sites in Jordan, as well as holding meetings with official and popular functionaries, in addition to visiting humanitarian institutions in Jordan. Based on Patriarch al-Rahi's visit program, he will visit the Patriarchal Vicariate in Saint Charbel Church in Amman and celebrate several Holy Masses.

Upon arrival at Saint Charbel Church, he was welcomed by Minister of Culture Ms. Haifa Najjar, parish priest of Saint Charbel Church Fr. Joseph Sweid, Latin Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan Bishop Jamal Daibes, Charge d'Affaires of the Vatican Nunciature in Amman Monsignor Mauro Lalli, representatives of Heads of Churches in Jordan, as well as parliamentary, diplomatic and public figures, the accompanying Lebanese delegation, an a large number of people.

Patriarch Rahi will visit Madaba during which he is scheduled to visit St George's Church, the Church of the Beheading of John the Baptist, and Mount Nebo. He will also be accompanied by Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Nayef Al-Fayez on a visit to the Governorate of Salt, during which he will visit Al Khader Church (also known as St. George's Church  which is situated on a hill in Salt), the Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, the Latin Church, and the Museum of Antiquities of Salt.
