An anniversary is not simply a celebration of an achievement based on the number of years, but it is also a celebration of all the effort put into the development stage of the project. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Radio Maria Mexico, a Holy Eucharist was celebrated in the Expiatory Temple of Guadalajara, presided over by Father Jorge Antonio Luna, director of the radio station and with the participation of hundreds of listeners. During the homily, Father Luna invited us to meditate on the second Joyful Mystery which corresponded with the Gospel of the day: the Virgin Mary who puts herself at the service of Elisabeth is undoubtedly the greatest example of how, by serving, Mary accomplishes her Fiat, that is, her: “Let it be done unto me”.

Meditating on all of this and putting it into practice is Radio Maria’s raison d’être, which allows us to contemplate what the Gospel tells us, to recognize that this passage presents us with the tireless love of a woman who, even when she is close to giving birth, goes to serve. This is how our faith life should be, one that should not be lived within four walls but should be a life of action. Our commitment as Christians should always have Mary as an example, and this is how this project that bears her name seeks to imitate Our Lady by serving all, putting into practice the love for one’s neighbour, always seeking conversion. Mary goes where there is a need, and that is exactly what Radio Maria has tried to do in these 20 years, so that Mary may guide us as we follow her example and continue to serve.

Radio Maria Mexico began broadcasting on 31 May 2003 in the city of Guadalajara and over time it has managed to expand to various cities in the Mexican Republic and is now present in Puerto Vallarta, Culiacan, San Luis Potosí, Guasave, Ensenada, Puebla, Cuernavaca, Zamora and more recently in the city of León, and let us not forget the 3 new frequencies we are already working on to reach other places; the goal is to cover most of the Mexican Republic by fulfilling the commitment made together with our founder, Mr. Emmanuel Ferrario, who used to say: “Wherever there is one human being, there must also be Radio Maria”.

At the end of the meeting, the president of the Association, Dr. Juan Antonio González, launched the next Radio Maria National Congress, whose motto is “Faith is conceived by listening”, an experience of faith that aims to involve the large majority of radio listeners nationwide, which will be held at the Shrine of the Martyrs of Christ the King in Guadalajara and which will see the participation of H.E. Msgr. Ignacio Munilla from Spain, Father John Mario Montoya from Colombia, Father Eduardo Chávez of the Basílica de Guadalupe and our beloved Father Modesto Lule, the Radio host. All of this will take place on 24 September this year and thus we will close the year of celebrations for the 20th anniversary of Radio Maria in Mexico.
