With great joy, on 15 December 2025 the solar energy project was inaugurated at the headquarters of Radio Maria Nigeria in Abuja and at the transmission site. It was a particularly significant event that took place just nine days before Christmas and enthusiastically involved hosts, staff, and listeners alike. The sense of satisfaction is profound, especially considering that in Nigeria electricity supply is often unreliable, both in large cities, including the capital, Abuja, and in rural areas. Ensuring a continuous supply of electricity represents a major challenge, particularly for a radio station that requires constant power both at its operational headquarters, where the studios are located, and at the transmission tower, where the radio-frequency system is installed.
As the costs of keeping generators running at both facilities are very high, solar energy has proven to be the most effective and sustainable solution. This project contributes to the stability and continuity of broadcasting, significantly reducing energy costs. Thus, even local donations—often coming from people in financially precarious situations—can continue to support the Radio more effectively. It is important to note that Radio Maria Nigeria in Abuja is the first Radio Maria in Africa to equip both its headquarters and its transmission site with a solar energy system. This milestone represents a commendable example and offers hope that, thanks to missionary generosity, this model can gradually be extended to many other Radio Maria stations across the African continent. May the Blessed Virgin bless all the generous hands that made this project possible.
