On Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Domus Galilaeae, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem His Beatitude Pierbattista Pizzaballa ordained three new priests, Giacomo Dainotti (Pavia, Italy), Paolo Felicetti (Foligno, Italy) and Igino Sistilli (Giulianova, Italy), from Redemptoris Mater Seminary of Galilee for the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem.
Concelebrants were Mgr Rafic Nahra, Patriarchal Vicar for Israel, and Mgr Giacinto-Boulos Marcuzzo, bishop emeritus, Fr. Piotr Zelasko, Patriarchal Vicar for the Saint James Vicariate, and Fr. Afif Makhoul, Vicar General of the Maronite Archdiocese of Haifa and the Holy Land, as well as several priests. Many came, including the seminarians of the Patriarchate Seminary in Beit Jala, the Redemptoris Mater Seminary of Galilee, as well as family members and friends of the newly ordained priests.
In his homily, Mgr. Pizzaballa reminded the ordained priests of the true essence of priesthood, which is servant hood. "To be a priest means to serve the people and not for the people to serve you: By serving the people whom the Lord appoints to you, you serve the Lord”.
He also advised them to use the personal pronoun “I” as little as possible, but always to deny themselves and focus on serving the faithful without self-interest.“The only criterion to which you must always refer to is your love for the Lord - “Do you love me?” “Tend my flock” (John 21:17) – “For only if you love the Lord will you be able to give your life for the flock.”
After the Eucharistic celebrations, His Beatitude announced the names of the parishes each priest will be serving at. Fr. Giacomo has been assigned as a vicar to the parish of St. Paul the Apostle in Jubeiha (Amman, Jordan); Fr. Paolo, a Vicar to the parish of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Fuheis (Amman, Jordan); and Fr. Igino was assigned to the Vicariate of St. James, which serves Hebrew-speaking Catholics, in Haifa.
