The voice of logic and peace emerges from Strasburg

By Fr. Dr. Rif’at Bader :

The world finds itself faced anew with calls to intensify prayers for peace in the world, particularly in the Middle East, at a time when it emerges from a bloody swirl of violence, that plunges into new ones and further bleak tunnels.

Nowadays, we need not bleakness but rather wisdom and reason. I refer in this regard to two noble and complementary calls. The first is relevant to His Majesty King Abdullah II. He is currently the dean of the Arab leaders, or I suppose the dean of world leaders, which I propose not only for his prevalent enlightened and wise rule, but for his wisdom and his option for peace and reason which can free the planet from many disasters.

How proud we have been of our leadership, when His Majesty the King stood to speak at the European Parliament about the moral decline, which jeopardizes the world, and the importance of the values which Jordan derives from its holiness. He expressed his pride, which we share with him, regarding the fact that our holy Jordan is the land of the Baptism of Lord Jesus Christ and that His Majesty is the Custodian of the Christian and Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem. The speech served to breathe life into the conscience of the world, especially the major powers, so that they may have the power to help find solutions to major dilemmas, most importantly the Palestine issue.

The presence of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al-Hussein Ibn Abdullah has been a source of pride, as he stood by the King supporting him in achieving rational thought. It suffices us to listen to His Highness a few days ago at the Crown Prince Foundation's Tawasul 3 Forum, where he outlined the national humanitarian directives for using AI to serve citizens, particularly the sick and the elderly. This is Jordan, it is the choice of reason, peace, and planning for serving humanity.

During every interview with foreign press, I reiterate that Jordanian youth of my age are proud that throughout their lives have nether seen blood being shed in the streets, nor have they rushed at any country's border seeking asylum. This situation has regrettably taken place in neighboring countries, as we plead with God to  overwhelm them with everlasting peace, stability, security, and safety. However, this is attributed to the wisdom of the captain of the Jordanian ship, who steers it with wisdom, patience, and reason, while mapping out plans for a bright future, God willing. Jordan's clear and explicit option is that we are not a party to the ongoing conflict against another party, and that "Jordan will not allow any party to use its airspace or land in the framework of conflicts or hostile activities."

In line with Strasbourg's Royal call for reasoning and responsibility, I move to the ship of the Peter in the Vatican, where Pope Leo XIV addressed two important issues that many decision-makers ignore, as they resort to recklessness and indifference instead of adopting the values of "responsibility and reasoning” which the Pope called for in his first address 40 days ago when he shed light on peace, bridge-building, dialogue, and sincere prayer, with a heart filled with faith for bringing about peace, justice, and respect for human dignity. The Pope said, “No one should ever threaten another’s existence  and it is the duty of all countries to support the cause of peace by initiating paths of reconciliation and promoting solutions that guarantee security and dignity for all".

With the quest for reasoning and resorting to the spirit of responsibility, we never tire of praying for peace. Let us support His Majesty the King, the greatest advocate of peace, with our prayers and supplications, so that his words may fall on attentive ears and those willing to fulfill the call of reason and peace.
