Welcome December 2020

By Fr. Rif’at Bader :

What a number of people who seek to exclude this month from the calendar so that the year 2020 would come to an end quickly, at a time when it brought with it tragedies, suffering, tears, lockdowns, face masks, fear, pain and sorrow!  Yet this is inevitable as we have to accept this month being the last month of the year, and no one can skip to claim the end of the year. We, thus, welcome December because you are the last month of the year, and we ask you to leave us at a time when you unveil hope and grace.

You are the month of hope as it marks Christmas  which is distinguished  by not being concomitant  with the usual festivities. We have this year to pay more attention to the essence of the holiday than to its manifestations.

You are the month of hope, being the month in which the World Health Organization will hopefully announce the validity of the vaccines proposed for scientific research and approval, a matter that will please all members of the human family.

O December, you are the last month of the year 2020. Let us ask the Almighty God for the manifestations of human solidarity that took place this year. This year was not bereft of heroism, acts of love, altruism, and giving priority to the interests of others and the public interests over personal interests. While wearing our face masks, we thank the Almighty God for all the events that took place during the year for it is the year of the unity of  the human family in the face of pain and suffering. May the human family be united by aspiring for hope and healing. With December, there will be those who will extend a hand of moral and material aid to the poor, the unemployed, and those badly affected by the epidemic.

O December, we keep all your days in the hands of the Almighty loving and merciful God whom we cherish in faith and follow Him with pride. We ask Him to be pleased with us despite our weakness and sins.

O Almighty God, you are our Father, and we are the clay from which we made us, come Emmanuel (God is with us), and make us again.
