“Unarmed and Disarming Peace”: the Int’l meeting for peace in Assisi, 25-27 Oct.

santegidio.org :

Forty years on from the historical meeting of prayer for peace summoned by Pope John Paul II, Assisi welcomes men and women of different faiths, united in the pursuit of peace.

Forty years on from the 1986 historical meeting in Assisi, when representatives of the World Religions gathered in the city of St Francis to pray for peace at the invitation of Pope John Paul II, Assisi once again becomes a place of encounter, dialogue and the search for paths to peace.

From 25 to 27 October 2026, the city of St Francis will welcome diverse voices, cultures and religions to renew a message of peace together.

The International Meeting for Peace titled this year, "Unarmed and Disarming Peace", will once again bring together representatives of the major religions, the world of culture, civil society and politics to discuss the most pressing challenges of our time and seek new paths towards dialogue, coexistence and peace.

The event will open with an Inaugural Assembly on the afternoon of Sunday 25 October at the large UmbriaFiere complex (Bastia Umbria).

From 25 to 27 October, the program will feature forums, meetings and round-table discussions with leading international figures on a range of topics.

The meeting will conclude with a solemn ceremony for peace, following the ‘Spirit of Assisi’ – which dates back to 27 October 1986 and has continued over the years through the International Meetings organized by the Community of Sant’Egidio – to be held in the Lower Square of St. Francis.
