As part of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities, the Department of Applied Sciences at Bethlehem University, in collaboration with the Mariam Foundation and Pilates instructor Ms. Sylvia Ghattas, has organized a special awareness event, under the theme: “Breast Cancer Awareness: The Role of Physical Activity in Healing and Recovery.”
The event, held in the University’s Auditorium, brought together participants for an afternoon of learning, empowerment, and wellness. Dr. Suhair Hamameh, assistant professor and researcher at Bethlehem University, delivered a lecture highlighting the importance of early detection and genetic testing in preventing and diagnosing breast cancer. This was followed by an interactive session with Ms. Sylvia Ghattas, who demonstrated how therapeutic Pilates can support women during recovery and promote both physical and mental well-being.
The Mariam Foundation also presented its “Nurse Navigator” project, which provides critical guidance and support for cancer patients throughout their treatment journey.
The program featured the distribution of educational materials and symbolic gifts, including Pilates mats and pink ribbons, as well as a pink balloon release honoring the resilience of women affected by breast cancer. The event concluded with a healthy reception for all attendees.
The Department of Applied Sciences emphasized that this initiative reflects Bethlehem University’s commitment to health education and community engagement, while promoting the role of physical activity in recovery and overall well-being.
