At the invitation of His Royal Highness Prince El-Hassan Ibn Talal, Latin Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan Bishop Iyad Twal has participated, in a series of meetings with a delegation of Jerusalemite figures--which included a distinguished group of representatives from the education, health, awqaf, real estate, and tourism sectors—within the framework of efforts designed to establish a Hashemite waqf in Jerusalem.
The meeting was attended by former Prime Minister Dr. Omar Razzaz, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohammad Al-Khalayleh, and Chief Islamic Justice Sheikh Abdul Hafiz Rabta. The discussions dealt with ways to strengthen the Jordanian and Hashemite role in protecting the holy sites and supporting Jerusalemite institutions in a manner that consolidates the city’s steadfastness and preserves its Arab identity.
The participants emphasized the importance of the Hashemite waqf as a strategic pillar for supporting vital sectors in Jerusalem, and for enhancing cooperation among various official, religious, and community parties which contributes to protecting the city’s spiritual and cultural heritage, as well as strengthens its presence in the conscience of people.
