In a scene reflecting the depth of the national fabric in Jordan, a group of Muslim tribal leaders from Husun, Bani Obeid District, and the Irbid Governorate on Sunday, April 26 received His Beatitude Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, and a member of the Vatican's Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, at the guesthouse of Al-Nusairat tribe.
In his address, Cardinal Pizzaballa expressed appreciation for the meeting, noting that every visit of his to Jordan encompasses a new experience that reflects the depth of the relationship between the components of the society. He stressed that this land is holy, and that life on this land must be based on love and peace. He also lauded the Jordanian model of common living and the pivotal role played by His Majesty King Abdullah II in protecting the holy sites in Jerusalem and defending the Christian presence in the region.
In a welcoming address on behalf of the tribes, Dr. Khaldoun Nusair emphasized that the relationships in Husun, Irbid, and Jordan as a whole are not recent, but rather a deep-rooted historical continuity based on love, respect, and shared life. He added that this model is grounded in the essence of religion, which entrenches the relationship with others on the basis of faith and respect.
He also highlighted the historical role of Eastern Christians in building Arab and Islamic civilizations through their contributions to the fields of science, medicine among others, while affirming that they are partners in nation-building, and that what Jordan experiences nowadays is a prevalent continuation of the values of common living.
