On Wednesday, June 2, a French parliamentary delegation accompanied by French Ambassador in Amman Véronique Vouland-Aneinigot was acquainted with French-government’s Caritas Jordan projects which contribute to enhancing job-opportunities for refugees in Jordan.
At the outset of the visit to Caritas Jordan offices, the French delegation visited the Madaba Mosaic site located at the entrance of the Greek Catholic Church in Madaba. The delegation toured the site and got familiarized with the Caritas Jordan projects under way as well as the employed Jordanians and Iraqi refugees.
Furthermore, the French delegation visited the American University of Madaba (AUM) during which acting AUM President Dr. Nayef Haddad thanked that French government for providing scholarships to its students. The delegation toured the AUM’s facilities and got familiarized with its role in developing the graduate studies in Jordan.
Later, the French delegation met with AUM Board of Trustees and its President Bishop William Shomali during which the bishop highlighted the importance of the scholarships offered by French embassy in Amman to Iraqi and Jordanian students, which give them an opportunity to pursue higher education and ensure a bright future. The delegation was also briefed on the AUM’s future plans and cooperation with global universities. The discussion also focused on means to enhance cooperation between the AUM and the French embassy.
At the end of the visit, the delegation visited the Church of the Beheading of John the Baptist in Madaba which is considered one of the oldest churches in the Kingdom.
