Jordan: Holy Land Coordination bishops delegation attends seminar

By Munir Bayouk/ en.abouna.org :

After visiting the Baptism Site, celebrating Holy Mass at the Church of the Baptism of Christ, and listening to explanations about the place, its importance, its history and its Biblical evidence, the delegation of the  Holy Land Coordination bishops proceeded to Hilton Hotel near the Dead Sea in order to hold a seminar organized by the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB), the Catholic Center for Studies and Media, in addition to the Pastoral Center for Marriage and Family Affairs.

Mr. Amer Tawal, JTB official in charge of Christian pilgrimage, welcomed the bishops, and explained to them the facilities provided by the JTB regarding welcoming pilgrims and visitors upon arrival. He also shed light on the importance of visiting the holy places in Jordan, and the extensive efforts being made to improve these sites. Twal screened some pictures and documentaries about tourism in Jordan which encourage the bishops once they return to their home countries to spur the faithful to undertake pilgrimage trips to Jordan, the Holy Land.

Director General of the Baptism Site Ruston Mkhjian spoke about the importance of the site, namely the Baptism Site of Lord Jesus Christ as well as about the pilgrimage map.

On the other hand, Director of the Catholic Center for Studies and Media (CCSM) Fr. Dr. Rif'at Bader presented a briefing on the establishment of the CCSM and hoped that this visit would produce more awareness of Christians and Muslims in Jordan as well as the treasures found in this part of the earth. He also talked about the history of the CCSM which marked its 10th anniversary last year  at a time when it marks the 20th anniversary of the launching its Arabic and English websites namely abouna.org and en.abouna.org.

Fr. Bader continued that in the presence of the CCSM and abouna websites we thank God for all the blessings that He has bestowed on us which have had an impact on the development and advancement of Arab Christian media in the region so that it always remain an expressive voice for Christians and Muslims, for the history of this place, as well as for the daily news issued by churches, and heads of churches, in addition to the follow-up of all international and local news.

Fr. Bashir Bader presented an explanation on the identity and importance of the Pastoral Center for Family and Marriage which was established by the Latin Patriarchate last year in order to  guide and direct families, especially those who suffer from the difficulty of living under one roof, as well as holding seminars prior to marriage that include all those intending to get married. He added that the center last year organized two seminars at a time when it will officially be launched in the coming weeks.

Later, the JTB hosted a banquet during which Bishop David Malloy, from Chicago, conveyed thanks and gratitude.
