Jordan: Msgr. Iyad Twal named vice-chairman of the board of trustees of RIIFS

In a move that reflects deep appreciation for dedicated efforts in promoting dialogue and mutual respect among followers of different religions and cultures, His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal has issued a decision appointing His Excellency Bishop Iyad Twal, Latin Patriarchal Vicar in Jordan, as vice-chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies (RIIFS), one of the region’s most prominent intellectual and research institutions.

 

In an official letter addressed to Msgr. Twal, His Royal Highness expressed his sincere appreciation and pride in the bishop’s pioneering role in building bridges of communication and understanding among diverse religious and cultural communities. He noted that this appointment aligns with the Institute’s ongoing commitment to fostering a safe and respectful environment for dialogue and to promoting pluralism and human dignity.

 

The letter reads:
"Based on your diverse experience, tireless work, and commitment to achieving the best outcomes in your entrusted responsibilities, I am pleased to invite you to serve as vice-chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies, which I am honored to chair, in order to support the Institute’s mission and further its efforts in enhancing harmony and dialogue among followers of different faiths, and in upholding and preserving human dignity."

 

The Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies is recognized as a unique intellectual platform that brings together academics, researchers, and religious leaders from a variety of backgrounds. It plays a leading role in promoting a culture of peace, deepening awareness of shared citizenship, and fostering coexistence within a framework that respects diversity and upholds universal human values.

 

Prince El Hassan concluded his letter with a prayer that God may bless bishop Iyad's steps with success and guide his efforts in the fields of humanitarian service and constructive engagement.

 

The appointment was officially issued in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on April 14, 2025
