Jordan: MECC rounds up activities of MECC Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs in Amman
The Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) is a regional ecumenical organization, which brings together Churches in the East for a common Christian witness in a region where Christ was born, lived, died, and resurrected.

Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) Dr. Michel Abs visited the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan at the head of a delegation from the Council including the Director of the MECC new office in Amman Father Ignatius Khalifeh, and MECC Financial Director Ms. Laudy Al Khoury.

Within the visit program, Dr. Abs and the accompanying delegation met with members of the Executive Committee of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), Fr. Dr. Rif'at Bader, the director of the Catholic Center for Studies and Media and Publisher of abouna websites, and Dr. Aude Kawas, head of the Central Committee of Department of Service to Palestinian Refugees at the Middle East Council of Churches, on Monday 3 June 2024, at the headquarters of Greek Orthodox Archdiocese in Amman.

During the meeting, the attendees discussed various issues related to the ecumenical work and ways to enhance it in order to build bridges between Churches and bridge the distances between them. They also talked about the work of the new MECC office in Amman, stressing the need to activate its role in the country. The attendees also discussed the program for the 50th anniversary of the MECC and the preparations for its celebration that will be held in Jordan.

 

Dr. Michel Abs meets with Archbishop Christoforos Atallah

As part of his visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan with the aim of inaugurating a new office MECC in Amman, MECC Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs, headed a delegation in a meeting held with His Excellency Archbishop Christoforos Atallah, the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Jordan. The meeting took place on Monday 3 June 2024, at the Archdiocese Headquarters, Amman. The delegation included Director of the MECC office in Amman Father Ignatius Khalifeh, and MECC Financial Director Ms. Laudy Al Khoury.

During the meeting, the attendees discussed updates relevant to the work of the MECC, in addition to its action mechanism and ways to develop its programs in Jordan aiming at achieving the MECC's desired ecumenical and humanitarian goals. They also talked about the program marking the 50th anniversary of the MECC and the most prominent activities being implemented for the occasion.

At the end of the meeting, Dr. Abs offered His Excellency Archbishop Christoforos Atallah a book titled, “Monasteries of the Antiochian See,” published by the University of Balamand in Lebanon.

 

Dr. Michel Abs visits the Catholic Center for Studies and Media

As part of his tour in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches Dr. Michel Abs, visited the Catholic Center for Studies and Media in Amman, on Tuesday 4 June 2024. He was received by Fr. Dr. Rif'at Bader, director of the Catholic Center for Studies and Media and Publisher of Abouna Websites, and member of the Executive Committee of the Middle East Council of Churches, as well as members of the team work.

Dr. Abs was accompanied by Father Gerasimos Tashman, pastor of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Divine Ascension in Khalda, Amman, and MECC Financial Director Ms. Laudy Khoury.

During the meeting, the attendees discussed several issues related to the ecumenical and Church work, stressing the importance of dialogue and enhancing joint work with various Churches in Jordan. They also talked about the activities of the MECC and the ways to develop its work in Jordan. This is in addition to the activities marking the 50th anniversary of the MECC, especially those that will be developed in Jordan.
