June… the month dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Lord Jesus

By Munir Bayouk/ en.abouna.org :

The heart of humans is always referred to as “the reservoir” of all emotions reflected by various events in the surroundings. Its beating is accelerated or slowed down according to unexpected developments that impact one’s life. On the other hand it stores emotions that mirror positions towards evil or goodness. But what about a Divine Heart that invokes only goodness, healing, mercy, and love? This is the heart of the incarnated God, Lord Jesus Christ, Who came to this world over 2,000 years ago to show the world that His heart is totally different from the hearts of all people in the sense that it exudes only goodness, beauty, and good tidings to the entire humanity.

The Holy Bible  reflects on human hearts by stating that, “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. (Luke 6:45)

The Catholic Church marks the month of June every year as the month of the Sacred Heart of Lord Jesus, which draws attention to the merciful heart of Lord Jesus. With reference to the Holy Bible, it states that the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus was first written about in John’s Gospel when John records that during the Last Supper he leaned back and rested his head on Jesus’ heart. There is nothing more valuable in the life than resting one’s head on the heart of Lord Jesus to hear the beatings of love and sacrifice to humanity, as well as to place one’s worries on the heart of the Lord in order to receive salvation and peace.

The dedication to the Heart of Lord Jesus can be attributed to 1673 when French nun Margaret Mary Alacoque  who belonged to the Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary (Visitandines) in eastern France began to receive visions about the Sacred Heart. Lord Jesus appeared to her revealing ways to venerate His Sacred Heart while explaining the immense love He has for humanity.

Lord Jesus told Sister Margaret Mary: “My Sacred Heart is so intense in its love for men, and for you in particular, that not being able to contain within it the flames of its ardent charity, they must be transmitted through all means.” On June 16, 1675, Jesus told Sister Margaret Mary to promote a feast that honored His Sacred Heart.

With the global June celebration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, it is important to plead with Lord Jesus’ mercy and seek His Divine help to instill His peace amidst human-made wars, that plunge humanity into oceans of the shed blood in various parts of world leading to the death of innocent people. People pray for  the healing touch of Lord Jesus to remove fear and anxiety as well as to spread harmony and common living.

A prayer dedicated to the Scared Heart of Jesus

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I love You, adore You, and desire to lay my head upon Your Sacred Heart so that the outpouring of Your love will be received and You will be loved all the more. Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I especially beg pardon for my sins and pray that my sins all be consumed by the fire of Your love. Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in You.
