June is the glorious month of the Heart of Lord Jesus

  By Munir Bayouk/ en.abouna.org :

One of the greatest and most sublime months of the year to be remembered is the month dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Lord Jesus, namely the month of June.

In this month, the faithful recall the suffering of Lord Jesus on the Cross which was culminated by having “His heart pierced for us and for the salvation of humanity.” He spent hours bleeding for us, breathed his last and died.

The Holy Bible says, “The soldiers therefore came; and they broke the legs of the first, and of the other that was crucified with him. But after they were come to Jesus, when they saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. But one of the soldiers with a spear opened his side, and immediately there came out blood and water.”

So, the side of Lord Jesus was opened with a spear, and the precious blood came gushing out of His heart. This is definitely the invaluable blood that cleanses the sins of the world and restores the glory to a world free from hatred, greed, violence, persecution, and wars.

In his encyclical on the Sacred Heart, Pope Pius XII says: “What is here written of the side of Christ, opened by the wound from the soldier, should also be said of the Heart which was certainly reached by the stab of the lance, since the soldier pierced it precisely to make certain that Lord Jesus Christ crucified was really dead. Hence the wound of the most Sacred Heart of Jesus, now that He has completed His mortal life, remains through the course of the ages a striking image of that spontaneous charity by which God gave His only begotten Son for the redemption of men and by which Christ expressed such passionate love for us that He offered Himself as a bleeding victim on Calvary for our sake.”

No wonder, Jesus is the good shepherd who takes care of His sheep and sacrifices Himself for protecting them and caring for them. “I am the good shepherd; I know My sheep and My sheep know Me.” (John10:14)

This month can be marked by sincere dedication to the Heart of Jesus. Our devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is merely a devotion to Jesus Christ Himself, namely to His love to all people. The Heart of Lord Jesus is the symbol of love. It is the symbol of God's infinite love, namely the generous self-sacrificing love for the entire humanity. His heart emits vivid rays capable of reanimating faith as well as of rekindling love and peace in callous hearts.

In our prayer to the Sacred Heart of Lord Jesus, we say:

“O most holy heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore you, I love you, and with lively sorrow for my sins I offer you this poor heart of mine. Make me humble, patient, pure and wholly obedient to your will. Grant, Good Jesus, that I may live in you and for you. Protect me in the midst of danger. Comfort me in my afflictions. Give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs, your blessing on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death. Amen.”
