Lebanon: The launching of the MECC TV, radio stations... a landmark achievement in Christian media
The launching of the MECC media outlets is a turning point in Christian media as it serves as a regional ecumenical organization, which brings together churches in the East for a common Christian witness in a region where Christ was born, lived, died, and rose from the dead.

In a celebration of the Blessed Feast of Pentecost, the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) held a press conference on June 9, 2025 marking the launching of its new TV and radio stations, which serves as an Ecumenical platform that brings together the various Church Families in the region, and a humanitarian voice speaking in the name of truth, dignity, and justice.

Christian media worldwide, whether television, radio, or websites, are armed with weapons of love, as they disseminate a message of cordiality, tolerance, and common living designed to ensure a world dominated by atmospheres of peace and harmony. This noble media launched anew is also designed to help alleviate the suffering of people by preaching the Word of God, mentioned in the Holy Bible, which comforts the suffering people and helps open blocked avenues on the way leading to easing the suffering of people and providing spiritual salvation.

The launching of the MECC media outlets is a turning point in Christian media as it serves as a regional ecumenical organization, which brings together churches in the East for a common Christian witness in a region where Christ was born, lived, died, and rose from the dead.

At the opening ceremony of the launching of the MECC TV and radio, Fr. Dr. Rif'at Bader, director of the Catholic Center for Studies and Media and publisher of abouna websites, and delegate of the MECC Executive Committee for the Media Affairs, said: "The media is the light from which the Church sends its message. This message has two complementary aspects. The first is the proclamation of the Gospel and the proclamation of Christian values in today's world, and this is the Church's right... However, the second aspect, complementary to this first aspect, is the aspect of dialogue between the various sister Churches, especially in this year, which marks 1,700 years since the Council of Nicaea and the declaration of the Common Faith that the Churches recite together. As well as through the fraternity that exists between Church Families, which is the most appropriate term used by our dear offices, "Church Families."

On the other hand, MECC Secretary General Professor Michel Abs said: "As a social researcher, before being an Ecumenical official, I consider that concealing knowledge, through withholding information, constitutes an implicit crime, and may sometimes be an actual crime, if it leads to harm or damage. Hence, the responsibility of imparting and disseminating knowledge, for the common good, constitutes a human, national, and religious duty... Disseminating knowledge and promoting good patterns of thought and behavior in society is one of the Church's primary tasks, because knowledge is the light that the Lord has commanded us to walk with as long as we have it. We must walk with it lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going. Knowledge is light and truth."

This major event in the field of media is of cardinal importance since it upholds the responsibility of spreading knowledge for the common good, namely the common good of humanity so as to walk along the roads with benevolence and useful knowledge that brightly outshines darkness whereby "this is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. (1 John 1:5)

With reference to the Holy Bible, it is noticed that even the Almighty Lord uses various "media channels" to communicate with humans which include burning bush, dreams, tongues of fire, among others which are always well suited to the time and needs.

With Christian media serving always as a catalyst for change in culture, it can spread the message of God’s love to the entire Earth while serving for evangelism, and discipleship. The appropriate use of the social media for evangelization facilitates a fruitful encounter between the good news and other fake news.

The CCSM's launching of new media outlets will definitely provide a new tinge in media coverage, while serving as a beacon of Divine knowledge that eliminates darkness and upholds the message of love. Congratulations.
