Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2026

By Munir Bayouk/ en.abouna.org :

With the advent of Christmas and the celebrations marking the onset of the new year 2026, people send messages of love with good wishes usually starting with the term, "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year".

This term has been used over the past hundreds of years, with people yearning for happy days to come, while turning over a new leaf in their lives over the miseries, the catastrophes, wars, and the problems that precipitate endless crises.

Christmas is the period of meditation, namely remembering that a unique or rather a nonpareil event took place over 2,000 years ago. It is a period of renovation with hopes to instill  a feeling of peace bearing in mind that a Savior is born Who came to our world with a message of love and peace destined to take away the burdens of humanity and replace them by atmospheres of amity and brotherhood.

The genuine message of Christmas lies in the elimination of grudge and hatred instilled in the hearts of people by a feeling of forgiveness and reconciliation. In Christmas people receive the dearest gift ever, namely the incarnated Word of God that joyfully arrived in our world to spread a message of harmony and love, as well as pave the way for the Kingdom of God.

In Christmas, it is important to remember man-made miseries that inflicted irreversible damage on humanity. In Christmas time, it  is important to remember the suffering of the people in the Holy Land, in Ukraine, in the Sudan, in the Lebanon, in Yemen while offering supplications and prayers to help alleviate the suffering of the persecuted Christians worldwide particularly in the Middle East, Africa, Nicaragua, and elsewhere.

Christmas is a sacred time wrapped in love and the warmth of dedication to fulfill the message of Christmas, a message laden with an aroma of devotion and dedication to experience the spirit of love and harmony. Christmas tells the story of good news that are worthy of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

May the new year 2026, unveil new eras of peace, tranquility, with the world peoples working hand-in-hand for the progress of humanity and  for attaining a sublime message of common living.

Marking Christmas and the new year 2026, the Catholic Center for Studies and Media in Jordan conveys  well wishes to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, His Beatitude Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan Bishop Iyad Twal, the clerics, and nuns, and peoples of the world with good wishes for a merry Christmas and a happy new year abounding with love and mercy.
