Prior to the solemn Mass due to be celebrated, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, on Tuesday December 2, visited the site of Beirut Port explosion, where he stood in a silent prayer in reverence for the souls of the victims. He greeted the families of the deceased with facial expressions reflecting deep emotions during this moving encounter.
This visit is part of the Pope's efforts to enhance unity and hope in Lebanon, at the site that has become a symbol of the profound wounds that the Lebanese people continue to suffer from since the tragedy that shook the country five years ago.
The silent prayer at the explosion site carries a powerful message of solidarity with the families of the victims and with the suffering of the Lebanese people, while serving as a reminder of the importance of attaining justice. The investigation relevant to the cause of the explosion continues while facing legal and political hurdles at a time when the demand for accountability remains a fundamental right for the families of the victims and for Lebanon.
