Pope in stable condition, Italian premier visits him in hospital
The Holy See Press Office in its update on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 reports that Pope Francis' clinical condition is stationary, Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visits him as he undergoes treatment in hospital and conveys wishes for a speedy recovery on behalf of the Italian government and nation.

The Holy See Press Office in its update on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 reports that Pope Francis' clinical condition is stationary, Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visits  him as he undergoes treatment in hospital and conveys wishes for a speedy recovery on behalf of the Italian government and the nation.

 

The Holy See Press Office provided the following update on Wednesday evening, 19 February: 

"The Holy Father's clinical condition is stable. The blood tests, evaluated by the medical staff, show a slight improvement, particularly in the inflammatory indices. 

"After breakfast, the Pope read some newspapers and then went about his work with his closest collaborators. Before lunch he received the Eucharist. In the afternoon, he received a visit from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, with whom he spent 20 minutes in private."

 

Italian Premier visits Pope Francis in hospital

On Wednesday, , February 19, Pope Francis received a visit from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

 

According to an official statement, the prime minister conveyed to the Pontiff best wishes for a speedy recovery on behalf of the Government and the entire Nation.

 

"I am very pleased to have found him alert and responsive," Meloni said. "We joked as always. He has not lost his well-known sense of humor."

 

This morning, the Holy See Press Office reported that the Pontiff had a "restful night."

 

Additionally, the Pope got up and sat in an armchair.
