Radio Maria Mozambique inaugurates its second substation
radiomaria.org :

The words spoken some years ago by the Bishop, H.E. Msgr. Diamantino Guapo Antunes, during a Mariathon, have now been fulfilled: since Saturday, 11 April 2026, Radio Maria is officially present also in the vast Diocese of Tete, in Mozambique.

Through the voice of Radio Maria, we will be able to reach the 1,117 communities and villages where the Catholic Church is present, bringing the Gospel and forming our Christians.” These were the bishop’s words, expressing hope that this project could soon take shape. Today, this ambitious goal has become a reality. An even more significant achievement considering the size of the territory: over 100,000 square kilometres.

The inauguration was a diocesan celebration. Tete previously had a local radio station, but the bishop’s desire was clear: to take a step forward in evangelization by transforming the station into a reality that would bring into the network the charism and mission of Radio Maria, as has already happened in many other African dioceses. This transition was far from simple. The transformation required considerable organizational and financial effort: from fundraising to staff training, from selecting a team to installing new technical equipment.

The history of Radio Maria in Mozambique dates back to 1995, when it was established as the second radio station of the network on the African continent. For many years, however, the signal remained limited to the area of the Archdiocese of Maputo and the dioceses of Xai-Xai and Inhambane. Only in 2022, after 27 years, was there a first expansion with the opening of the substation in Quelimane.

Today, just four years later, the arrival in Tete marks a significant acceleration in the expansion process. This result has also been made possible thanks to the missionary generosity of supporters, particularly through the Mariathons and the “missionary hourglasses” of Radio Maria Italia. While giving thanks for what has been achieved, the focus is now on the next Mariathon which will take place in May, in the hope that more and more hearts will be opened to the mission and to spreading the Gospel through the Radio.
