A real-life story: Renowned actress Dolores Hart gave up stardom to become a nun
Priests and nuns are the people of God on Earth who dedicate their lives to spread the message of love and peace while serving to help guide people to the path of goodness, and piety by recognizing the ineffable and unlimited love of God for creatures.

A religious vocation is mostly a divine calling to dedicate one's life to religious service, which is viewed as a gift requiring a response of faith, trust, and sacrifice. It is viewed as a source of fulfillment and a means to live a life of holiness, though it can be challenging and may require great openness and courage to embrace.

This is a real-life story of an actress who gave up stardom in the 1950s and opted to become a shining star in the field of piety by becoming a nun.

In the 1950s Dolores Hart was one of the well-known actors who starred in numerous films, yet she gave up fame at just 24 years of age to live as a nun. In 1963, she had the world at her feet while a crowd of ardent admirers grew around her.

In 1962, Dolores shocked Hollywood and her admirers by renouncing her starlet career and decided to follow “the King of a Kings” and to devote her life to serve humanity by choosing a noble path in her life that promotes goodness by becoming a nun. So, she tossed away her promising acting career and sought refuge as a nun. In 1963, Hart left Hollywood for good and became a nun. She entered the strictly cloistered Benedictine Regina Laudis Monastery in Bethlehem, Connecticut, of which she is the Reverend Mother.

She recalls that one moment when she was taking a break from filming, Elvis Presley walked over to her, handed her a Bible, and said, "Miss Dolores, would you open this book? What do you see? What does it mean to you?"  She says, “And so, I offered my opinion on what I was seeing. And from there, we spent the time in between the scenes talking about the Bible. I never expected a fellow actor, in particular, to have that kind of genuine curiosity. He wasn’t trying to set up anything.” She adds, “I think it’s important for anyone to understand that it was a dramatic change. It wasn’t something I planned on. I thought I would go through my time in Hollywood. However, this vocation showed me my life’s purpose. Then I started to ask myself, "What am I doing in Hollywood? Where is this going to take me?" The realization became clear and really, it’s a gift. I was so lucky. God called me.”

Jordan, as part of the Catholic Church's Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, observes the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. This is an annual, worldwide observance, and local parishes in Jordan mark it in tandem with the universal church.

The World Day of Prayer for Vocations is observed on the fourth Sunday of Easter, also known as Good Shepherd Sunday. It provides a time for the faithful to pray for vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and religious life.

With the hope that clerical vocations would increase in the  near future, so that secular people would  find noble people who are ready to dedicate every effort to help them find a right path in life, it is also important to have ordinary people resort to follow the path of sainthood in their lives  by freeing themselves from evil deeds that include grudge, hatred, corruption, and exploitation of others in the name of mercy.
