Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem His Beatitude Pierbattista Pizzaballa and Latin Patriarchal Vicar for Lebanon Bishop César Essayan chaired the annual meeting of the Council of Latin Bishops in the Arab Region which convened in Rome on August 29-31, 2022.
Every bishop presented a briefing on the situation in his respective region and the work conducted by the Church, bearing in mind that Christian communities in several countries have been facing difficulties due to the socio-economic difficulties prevailing at the time. The bishops discussed the procession of the Synod in every respective region, and a representative for the Council of Bishops was elected for the upcoming Synod meetings to be held in October 2022 in Beirut.
The sessions included meetings with several Holy See officials especially officials from the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches, while the date and venue of the next meeting was approved to be in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, on February 9-12, 2023.
In attendance were patriarchal vicars of Jerusalem, Nazareth, Amman, and Cyprus, as well as Latin bishops in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, the Arabian Peninsula, and Djibouti.
