Sister Patrick, of Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity, marks 60th anniversary of her consecration

By Munir Bayouk/ en.abouna.org :

In the heart of Amman, particularly at the Sisters of Charity Church on Wasfi Al-Tal Street, a Holy Mass was celebrated on Saturday, December 6, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the consecration of Sister Patrick, a member of the Order of Saint Teresa.

The Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr. Dr. Rif'at Bader, parish priest of the Sacred Heart Church in Tla'a Al-Ali, and concelebrated by assistant priest Fr. Ya'qoub, and Father Matthias, the order's spiritual director.

During his homily, Fr. Bader spoke about Sister Patrick, whom he had known since 1984, prior he attended the seminary. He recounted how she used to visit homes in Jabal Ashrafieh and Al-Misdar to instill devotion to the Sacred Heart  of Jesus and to distribute images of the heart to families.

He noted that the Order of Charity was founded by Mother Teresa in 1950 in Calcutta, India, who visited Amman several times. He added that Sister Patrick may have been among the first nuns to answer the Lord's call to consecration, particularly from India, where Mother Teresa, of Albanian origin, had worked assiduously.

After the homily, Sister Patrick knelt before the altar, and renewed her religious vows and thanked God for the grace of consecration while marking her diamond jubilee.

During the Holy Mass, the Sacrament of Baptism was administered to Mr. Ra'fat, who came from Iraq and is of Christian descent. His Christian family had not been aware of his baptism as a child, so he received it at this advanced age. Father Ya'coub Daynoti presented two gifts, namely to the Order and to Mr. Ra'fat on the occasion of his baptism  ashe  took the name "paul", whose godparents were Raven and Asma'.
