Tribute is paid to Bishop William Shomali at end of his duties in Jordan
Bishop William Shomali said, "Almost five years ago, I stood at this church and made my first address. I recall that I said, 'We want to build together a bright, radiant, honest, modest, fair, pure, and forgetful Church that serves as a tool of peace and unity in society.'

On Thursday, September 16, 2021 Latin Vicariate priests in Jordan paid tribute to Latin Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan Bishop William Shomali at the end of his four-year service in Jordan and his nomination as Latin patriarchal vicar for Jerusalem.

This was reported during a Holy Mass celebrated by Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem His Beatitude Pierbattista Pizzaballa and concelebrated by  Bishop Shomali, Patriarch Fouad Twal, Bishop Salim Sayegh, and Charge d'Affaires of the Apostolic Nunciature in Amman Monsignor Mauro Lalli in the presence of Latin Patriarchate priests, deacons, acolytes and nuns.

In his address, Bishop Shomali thanked Lord Jesus for the blessing bestowed upon him during his service in Jordan, noting that this is not a farewell Mass as the churches constitutes one family and one body whose head is Lord Jesus Christ whether the services are conducted in Jordan Palestine, or the Galilee.

He also thanked "the divine providence that guided me and shuttled me from one place to another, between Jordan and Palestine, between Palestine and Jordan, between Beit Jala and Jerusalem, and Jerusalem and Beit Jala." He also thanked Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem His Beatitude Pierbattista Pizzaballa for presiding this thanksgiving Holy Mass, and for all his tireless efforts and continuous efforts designed for the attainment of spiritual advancement and administrative development of the diocese. We pray for him every day so that divine grace would accompany him."

He also thanked Charge d'Affaires of the Apostolic Nunciature in Amman Monsignor Mauro Lalli for his continued support and cooperation with the Latin Vicariate and his presence today which is a sign of this strong nexus. He also thanked the deacons who dedicate their time and volunteer for free in the service of the Lord by presenting a good model in their familial, vocational, and pastoral lives.

He concluded his address saying: "Almost five years ago, I stood at this church and made my first address. I recall that I said, 'We want to build together a bright, radiant, honest, modest, fair, pure, and forgetful Church that serves as a tool of peace and unity in society.' I do not know to what extent I succeeded in bringing this wish to reality. At any rate, I thank God for any achievement attained with your cooperation and seek His forgiveness for any failure I caused. I also ask for forgiveness for any shortcoming committed against any of you. My God protect you as an asset and as sincere servants of the Holy Church. Amen."

Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem His Beatitude Pierbattista Pizzaballa also delivered a terse address in which thanked Bishop Shomali for "placing himself at the service of the Jerusalem Church as the need arises." He noted that Bishop Shomali would be transferred to Jerusalem with his rich pastoral experience, as this does not constitute a new start but rather a continuation of his service from a different perspective."

Patriarch Pizzaballa addressed a pastoral message to the bishops and priests of the diocese in July 2021 which included transferring Bishop Shomali to Jerusalem. It is to be noted that Patriarch of Jerusalem Pizzaballa named Fr. Jamal Khader D'aidis as Latin Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan to succeed Bishop Shomali.
